Created for A New Hive, Animal Viewer reinterprets the Stanhope lens as a reliquary. I dissected a bee from the same collapsed colony that supplied the wax for The Abandoned Comb, placing parts of its anatomy into seven lenses in place of microphotographs.
The hexagonal form echoes a honeycomb cell, becoming a small sarcophagus commemorating the fallen colony. The chain draws on Navajo silverwork, a reference I intended to evoke North America before the introduction of European honey bees.
